How to Tie a Sarong – Little Black Dress Edition

When my good friend Julia and I were in Hawaii last summer, we found ourselves in a predicament. Having scheduled an expensive and elegant luau for that night, we planned to be back in time to shower, coconut oil up and put on a pretty sundress before the big event. Island time got the better of us and we realized we had mismanaged time and had to high-tail it to the marina for the little cruise that would take us to our party.

So we scooted to town and stopped in a boutique. We picked out two batik dresses and three little jumpers for the girls. The cashier rang us up – $450! We sheepishly handed over the credit card.

Never again! I felt extra silly when I realized that we had a (free) solution. Our sarongs could have been twisted up into adorable little dresses. We made this video in honor of that very expensive mistake. For the record, we also know that buying our batik dresses from Turtle Island Imports before the trip saves hundreds of dollars. Live and learn! Laugh and move on. Enjoy the vid!
